Heart first and then head or head first and then heart? From where do new business ideas come? Often times an entrepreneur is emotionally tied to an idea. There is a flutter in the stomach and he or she sits down and begins to put pen to paper. I like passion. You have to possess passion as you begin a new venture (dare I call it an adventure).

The staff and Board at CVBI have been working to expand our support for entrepreneurs. Our Entrepreneurial Training Process (ETP) classes have been receiving rave reviews from participants for years (the next ETP class starts Sept. 18). Now, we are adding a variety of single-session seminars that introduce crucial business fundamentals to our menu of services.

OK, this is going to seem painfully obvious to all of you, but I had a clarifying moment last month about the value of what we do at the Central Valley Business Incubator. It was one of those situations where I understood the pieces of the puzzle, but hadn't seen the complete picture yet.

When I am asked, "What does CVBI do?" my simple answer is - "We bring together community resources to help companies launch successfully." Those resources come into our organization in a variety of ways. Sometimes people help our members directly with advice or services. More often, financial resources are given directly to CVBI to run our organization.
