Economic Development Through Entrepreneurship
The City of Clovis voted Monday, June 16, to continue their funding of the Central Valley Business Incubator.
This continued support of innovation and entrepreneurship was confirmed by Mayor Bob Whalen. “National research shows that for every dollar invested in a business incubator, local government agencies collect $30 in taxes to support local services,” Whalen said. “Look at local company success stories, for example Pelco, CargoBay and Anlin Window Systems – those companies grew here. We think the next Pelco could be developing right now, in one of CVBI’s facilities.”
Michael Dozier, Clovis’ community and economic development director, sees the Business Incubator as a vital part of the city’s economic develop strategy. “We know that every Central Valley town is going to benefit from these companies as they launch and grow,” Dozier said. “We think that many of the companies will want to locate in Clovis as they launch. We refer Clovis businesses to CVBI on a regular basis because they have the staff and resources that directly benefit these start-up companies, and we know they’ll be treated well.”
CVBI’s Board Chairman Claude Laval said, “We’ve always been proud of our support from Clovis and other local government entities. We go out of our way to be a good partner in the City’s economic development efforts.”
Annually, Clovis contributes $20,000 to CVBI.
